Grand Parade Rethymno Carnival (Apokrias)
|
Huge Carnival Parade through Rethymno with thousands of colourful participants. One of the largest Carnival Parades in Greece. Time around 2pm.
The traditional burning of the Carnival King takes place after the parade at 6.30pm.
Today is known as 'Cheese-eating Sunday' and is the end of the third week of Carnival, 'Cheese Week' or 'White Week' when dairy products and eggs are eaten.

Celebrations around Crete including activities traditional for this day such as flying kites and family picnics in the countryside. This is the first day of Lent (Sarakosti)(Σαρακοστή). An unleavened bread, Lagana (λαγάνα), is traditionally eaten on this day.
