Kalamaki

Information about Kalamaki



Kalamaki is an area of hotels with two sandy beaches, Stalos and Glaros.

Both beaches can be affected by the Summer north winds.

Both beaches have facilities for swimming, sunbathing and sea sports.

Accommodation is available and facilities for food and drink.

Kalamaki beach/Glaros Beach is a long sandy beach of 900m in length. The beach is easily accessed from the accommodation. The local flora includes Sea Pine, Oleander, Palms and the rare and protected Sea Lily (Pancratium maritimum) which grows on the sand dunes. Please respect the cordoned off areas in which the plants grow by not entering them.

The Municipality of Nea Kydonia organises an annual environmental programme including beach clean ups, recycling and cycling information, and educational workshops on the Sea Turtle (Caretta caretta).

The beach has been awarded Blue Flag status.

Stalos Beach

Stalos beach is a long sandy beach at the village of Stalos and adjacent to Kalamaki/Glaros beach.
The beach extends to 2000m in length.

The local flora includes Sea Pine, Palms and the rare and protected Sea Lily (Pancratium maritimum) which grows on the sane dunes. Please respect the cordoned off areas in which the plants grow by not entering them.

8 kilometres West of Chania.
Public buses run regularly between Chania and both beaches.
