The prefecture or province of Lasithi (Λασίθι) stretches across Crete from the north to south coasts and borders the prefecture of Heraklion to the west.
The capital of the area is Agios Nikolaos. It is situated on the north coast.
The Nomos Lasithiou, as it is sometimes written contains 8 municipal districts across 4 provinces. The municipal districts are: Agios Nikolaos; Ierapetra; Itanos; Lefki; Makrys Gialos; Neapoli; Oropedio Lasithiou and Sitia.
The provinces are: Mirambelos; Lasithi; Ierapetra and Sitia.

Beaches and Resorts
The districts contain some of Crete's most famous resorts including Agios Nikolaos and Elounda. In addition to these very well known coastal resorts, the area also boasts a wealth of isolated locations including beaches such as Vai, Chrissi Island and Itanos.
Monasteries and Byzantine Churches
