GeorgioupoliInformation about Georgioupoli

Georgioupoli is a picturesque town situated on the North coast of Crete in the Chania area.
It has several fine sandy beaches and a river, the Almiros, which flows from the mountains inland to the sea via a lovely wildlife habitat at its estuary.
Kingfishers are resident here and seen frequently on the river and around the harbour. One of the approaches to the town from the National Road passes through an avenue of huge Eucalyptus trees.
The town is named after Prince George of Greece.
Beaches at Georgioupoli
The first beach stands in front of the main town of Georgioupoli. It is a popular long, sandy beach. It can be affected by the Summer north winds.
Being close to the centre of town, it has excellent facilities for eating and drinking very closeby. A range of accommodation is available. The beach has facilities for swimming, watersports and sunbathing.
Georgioupoli is easily accessed from Chania or Rethymno by public transport.
The second beach is situated west of the river. This beach is sandy. It can be affected by the Summer north winds.
Food and drink facilities are available with more available in the town itself which is only a short walk away.
Perastikos beach is situated to the east of the main beach of Georgioupoli and is really just a continuation of the main beach. It is situated by the Perastikos river. It has food and drink facilities and accommodation is available closeby.
Location:
Georgioupoli is easily accessed from Chania or Rethymno by a public bus service which runs regularly along the National Road only a short walk away from the centre of town.
